Within the same question you propose, raises another one as interesting as the original. Ask yourself: Is it ethical to even try to decide if, not only knowledge, but anything, should be pursued? I think It would be helpful to get to the roots of the topic in order to analyze the main problem itself. Obviously this doesn't help you in your main problem, but It gives you, in some way, support material.
